Setting off today!

Very soon the 30 of us on GV2014 will be meeting up at last - at various Australian airports, at Singapore's Changi airport or in Istanbul. Looking forward to getting to know everyone, and to a day exploring Istanbul (jetlag permitting) before we head down to the Gallipoli peninsula.

Yesterday we visited The Children's Bookshop in Beecroft. Interesting to see the Anzac books being published for children here in Australia; some of them make it across the Tasman, but I hadn't heard of Meet the Anzacs by Claire Saxby, illustrated by Max Berry (part of a series about historical characters). I'd heard about I was only nineteen by John Schumann, illustrated by Craig Smith, but hadn't seen it before. It's a very powerful and moving book about the Vietnam War - even more powerful if you listen to the song online.
